“This week I had the absolute pleasure of MCing the inaugural screening of a short film titled Faces of Clay by Elizabeth Ellames and Harvey Newland-Harman. The film captures the creative and transformative process involved in making some of the art pieces for The Art of Being Human exhibition in the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival. The art exhibition was a project developed by Serafina Tané to strengthen community and collaboration in Adelaide CBD.

The remarkable sculptures produced by Scott Eames for the exhibition were the focus of the film “Faces of Clay”, and were on display in the foyer of The Mercury cinema on the night. To hear in the film the life stories of Angela, Wolf, Bushy, and Jill, who were the subjects of the sculptures, was to be granted powerful insights into human vulnerability and human resilience alike.

Each of the sculptures will now reside in agencies that assist people through the most fragile times – Hutt St Centre, MOSH, Catherine House and Baptistcare. My sincere congratulations to the artists and everyone involved in the art exhibition for your talent and commitment to strengthening community, to Scott Eames for your amazing sculpting talents, and to Elizabeth and Harvey – the “Faces of Clay” filming and production team – for your commitment to telling stories that matter with such beautiful technique and tenderness.

The night was complete with original live music from Souzi and the Cool Mints in the foyer before the screening, a tastefully run auction by Dale Gray, and the great audience. It was indeed a memorable evening of connection and celebration, and I have much gratitude for being invited to MC the event.”

WHY we need STORY

We are creatures who belong to each other for reasons beyond analysis, for it is our heart’s desire and our life’s dream to fulfill a worthy story.

We ache with a need to connect and create or sadly the other is we become numb and silently indifferent.

Yet it is the never-ending and renewed STORY that is forever wanting to grow through us… I urge you, dear storytellers of our time, to be at one with its magical forces. For in truth there is nothing but Story, it is what teaches us and what sustains us as human beings. STORY informs our purpose, but more importantly, it gives humanity its Soul.

This is the number one mantra used in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and a great tool for those struggling with any emotional addictions or substance addictions.  

 

Let’s have a think about this All the reasons why we cant respond to our heart’s desire are basically not true, and only feed our emotional addictions or our need for control… which we often hide behind.

Our ‘collective shadow-side’ has been running amuck for a long time and needs some serious transformation. We can either keep feeding its addiction or acknowledge its presence and decide to transform it into its full GLORY.

New Style Leadership is a vehicle of liberation and illumination Not a game of comparing and competition.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could collectively “correct and transform” the following;

THESE ARE THE FOUR MAIN EMOTIONAL ADDICTIONS.

CONFLICT

SUFFERING

WITH-HOLD

ENABLING

Most people live with one or all of these addictions every day…. we can use this information to keep stuck in our old story/addiction or we can use it as a driver toward a new style of leadership.

Let’s transform our psyche from FADE to FLOURISH

So, if we have an addictive nature (and I believe all humans have) let’s change our addiction to one that works positively for all of us.

We could turn our “re-active impulse” into our soul’s “creative impulse”: Our Life Purpose

You know, that thing we just can’t live without… let our Obedient Heart be our compass of JOY… let joy become our fix, our next hit.

I have a burning desire to activate as many people as possible, so they can truly prosper in their glowing authenticity.

If this is my creative impulse, my positive addiction, bring it on… I want it now, give it to me, give it to me NOW!

Real Deal Power

Slide10Many female leaders mistakenly try to balance the shortcomings of dominant leadership by “over-relying” on their passive leadership tools such as empathy and collaboration. But getting people together to figure out what their Primary Vision is and what it needs, can easily lead to more confusion.

It can also weaken the power of women who may be misplacing their emotional intelligence when it’s their practical intelligence that will really make the difference.

However, a new style leader needs to demonstrate their Real Deal Power and cut through the confusion by constantly “simplifying the complexities” that are presented.

  • She is able to articulate the big picture and the necessary priorities using an array of simple directive statements, not commands or demands, but rather discerning and objective distinctions.
  • She always links her actions to the urgent needs of the project at hand and the culture of the company or team.
  • She can articulate the strategic plans of the project as clearly as a CEO.
  • She states what must be done immediately and has a question such as, “Does it make sense to you all that we replace our program development reviews with short, biweekly feedback sessions since people need a constant flow of coaching to stay focused on emerging priorities?”

And it’s wise to remember not to open any of these clarifying questions with a “Why”, because this can often imply that there is a level of judgment present and may bring about even more confusion.

Slide14This technique of making recommendations in the form of a question consistently raises her position of effective power. Her questions frame the discussion and contain compelling “if-then and what next” logic. It also helps her not fall into the trap of either complaining about or insisting on a change she wants to make.

This technique is not trivial.

There is plenty of research that confirms when women try to exert power using the same techniques as dominant males they actually reduce their power and influence and become labeled as “overly aggressive or worse…”

To sum it up, if we want to increase our power girls, we need to simplify confusion, clarify priorities, and lead people to follow us by asking them the appropriate “what’s next” or “where next” questions.

Above all adopt a real deal leadership approach. Don’t wait for orders and don’t spend your life trying to achieve other people’s goals.

What are​ Attention and Intention?

What does it take to perfect clarity again and again throughout your life?

It takes “CLARITY of INTENTION” – which simply means placing your attention on how your personality and skill set can add value to the lives of others. It also requires tuning in with the same enthusiasm, heart to heart connection, vulnerability, and openness that you felt at the time of your project’s inception, and then be willing to listen to and observe any synchronicities that present themselves.

Attention and Intention are how you build quality RESONANCE – this means cultivating alignment, hovering around it, reclaiming it and correcting and transforming your behavior again and again – plus watching with honesty and compassion to the what, why and how of all your actions.

You must totally trust that the Unified Field, Your Future Self, and Your Spirit has been informing you of your role as a co-creator in all that you have been creating.

Being in synch with the larger intention (The Field) – will give you the courage to open your heart and mind to social innovation, to speak out even when you are the only person in the room with that perception.

Don’t doubt what you are supposed to be doing – when you align your values and motives to serve the “greater creative impulse”, you begin to see it’s actually facilitating you.

That doesn’t mean you don’t occasionally lose hope, clarity, or inner peace. However it does mean that you know how to regain it, and it always comes down to tuning into something greater than yourself and aligning with the creative impulse, which is moving in the same direction, accompanying you as you go.

How do you achieve this? – By simply meditating each morning for 15 – 60 minutes a day before doing anything else. Contemplating, tuning in, asking, listening and waiting until you are fully relaxed and grateful before you get up and begin the rest of your day. I know that might seem like a long time for some people, but the results are worth it.

You could look at it this way time = live not money – and your Future Self requires you to create some uninterrupted Time and Space each day to ensure you continue to have Clarity of Intention – I encourage you to decided that approximately 4 hours in a week of 168 hours, isn’t really much to contribute to gain the clarity of intention and a deep sense of connection you need to keep on purpose. Also recognizing that the “peak” synchronistic events that you have experienced in life, along with your daily meditation help you maintain your resonance, which in turn allows these synchronistic events to keep occurring organically.

Acknowledging these experiences is a reminder of what’s possible – choose to be in this resonance as often as you possibly can: A co-creative, connected, clear place where your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, conversations and actions are all aligned with your purpose.

Here is a short verse to use when seeking guidance around your co-creation and purpose.

Dear Future Self…

Please show me if this project I want to initiate or be a part of is part of a greater creative impulse, which is authentically correcting and transforming our world – and directly moving toward…

SYNERGY, PEACE, LOVE, PROSPERITY and UNITY.

If it is, I am happy to be an instrument of this conscious evolution and I will generously use my personal empowerment to serve this larger vision. I simply need to know this isn’t just me doing something willfully, independent of a larger purpose and intention.

Experience the Experience

Version 2

When my boys were young, like most children they developed the practice of wanting to share their new experiences. Be it drawing, riding a bike, climbing trees or skateboarding…. They wanted their Dad and I to share in their newfound experience.

In a way they were saying, “I’m here, I exist, I want to be seen and heard… I want to experience being experienced by you.” And as human beings, we never really lose that. Because we actually grow from the experience of being experienced.

We might be more sophisticated about how we do it or say it, but ultimately we want to let the world know that we are here and that we matter.

If we are promoting a product or service and are asking for people’s money or precious time — we must first see and value who they are. We need to know them as well as we know our self, as well as we know our family and friends.

We must master the art of identifying our clients/audience needs and then express and address those needs with absolute clarity.

Abraham Maslow the American psychologist share this many years ago. He was best known for creating Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs, a theory of psychological health, which suggested that the fulfilling of innate human needs in priority… resulted in self-actualization.

What follows is an adapted version from a branding point of view. Our brand needs to meet the needs of our audience; our tribe. It’s that simple! We need to identify three components of that understanding:

Desires – Recognition – Beliefs.

Theses elements – Desire, Recognition, and Beliefs are the three parts of your audience’s mind, which are the raw materials you work with to truly serve your audience and add value to their life.

First… DESIRE

When we are young children what we want makes up a large part of who we are. And of course, that doesn’t stop being true when we become an adult.

Desires have tremendous driving power and are always present. You cannot create them, diminish them or battle them. But we can expand them, sharpen them, channel them and give them a focus. To see your audience clearly, to hear the first signs of “Pick me, See me… I’m over here.”  We need to recognize what they need in order to feel valued.

What does your product or service provide your audience, which they actually want?

But it doesn’t stop there.

Second… RECOGNITION

And recognition can be even more powerful than raw desire. Each of us as human beings has a deep need to know where we belong. And when we don’t, we become uncomfortable and will do anything to correct that feeling.

What about tribes?

What role do we play… and what role do we want to play? How do others see us, and how do we see ourselves? Your brand is everything you communicate about your product or service, which means what you do counts more than what you say — because this is where the real point of connection is created.

Who does your product or service allow your audience to be?

I really love this question… I think it’s brilliant! This is where your audience decides, “Is this product or service something I would choose to identify with … or not?”

 Finally… BELIEF/VALUES

If you want to see your audience or potential audience —respond with, Yes.. I See You Clearly! — connecting your beliefs/values is the best way to do that. Recognition was the primary driver of marketing in the 20th century, but it is belief/values that are the biggest driver today.

Currently, everything you do is transparent (because of the web) remember that you are communicating your beliefs through everything you do. The Real Deal motto around branding is… we are what we share and we share if we care.

What are the beliefs/values that formed your product or service?

Are you speaking to an audience that shares those beliefs/values?

If you want to influence… you must connect first. Yes… our audience is now serious grown-ups… But that small child inside them still has deep desires and a need for recognition. Good business is built on good relationships and good relationships form a sound community and there you have it – A TRIBE!

  • Demonstrating what you believe in will make that unbreakable connection.
  • Show them the role they can play and the tribe they can belong to.
  • Let them know that you can give them what they want.

Show your audience that you see them — you recognize, respect and reference them… and let them know that they are in the right place.

Moving from Me to We

As we lift the veil of separation among women, what do we see?

Unfortunately, the first thing we see is fear, fear of loss, fear of control and fear of being left behind. We are in conflict with our self, we have fought for our liberation and here in the west, I believe we have achieved it. We are socially liberated but on the level of consciousness, we are not. We are still trying to find what our true liberty means, which of course comes from our inner belief systems. We now suffer from our internal conditioning rather than external conditions. It’s time to set our self free, free from all the behaviors our ancestral grandmother’s adopted in order to survive, these thought processes no longer serve us, its time to grant our self true freedom.

Is it time for women to stop competing for position and unite?

We are more than ready to bring forth the New Woman, our souls want to connect heart to heart and together dream a brand new day. The way of the past has weighed heavy on our hearts and we didn’t really know what was causing it. I believe the constant threat of competition has caused most of the destructive family and social behaviors among women. Today we have many choices and opportunities that bring us closer to our true potential. We know deep in our bellies that we are encoded with the power of unity. Where there is competition there is no innovation, but where there is innovation coupled with unity there is valuable momentum.

Are we responsible for our conditioned behavior?

Our conditioned behavior is an inbuilt protection system passed down from earlier generations, but now that system has become inappropriate for its environment. A bit like an old operating system on your computer, as soon as you know there is a new operating system available, everything about the old one seems to be irritating and slow. We can keep putting up with the old system or simply uploading the new one. Its all about responsibility; the ability to respond – It’s just a matter of choice and perseverance. The key for me is to keep uploading my New We Operating System. It works every time!

Goodbye to Gossip

 

Hello Integrity….. Dear old gossip has become an addiction for many women.

It is seductive and builds an unhealthy intimacy among women, which creates false security. I believe the female species will come to a place of contentment when this persistent obstacle is corrected and transformed.

Gossip is connected to these four faces of addiction.

  • boredom
  • competition
  • drama
  • low self-esteem

Realizing this is the first step to healing the addiction – from there we can choose to participate in it or not.

It is said the point of power is in the present and poor old Gossip is never in the present she is always going on about what was said or happened in the past. She weaves her words for the purpose of separation, which create a divide in friendships, family and community.

Gossip keeps everyone small and is always driven by fear. Women have relied on gossip to define their position in society and culture for centuries, but it is not necessary anymore. Women now have the opportunity to rise up out of this unproductive damaging behavior and create a new and prosperous culture for all women.

Gossip is a shadow deity whose time and face has come to an end. She has upgraded to the face of “Integrity”, who is evolving into the New Woman, the New Humanity and therefore there is no place for these old behaviors.

I say it is time to put our temptation to spread rumors to bed and start being more creative with our female conversations, after all, we are extremely creative beings.

For the record, the gossip on me is “why does she always have to be… so in ya’ face” well my response to that is – at least it’s to your face and not behind your back and bitchin’ in the kitchen so to speak.

Guess it all started with that wicked old queen in the story of Snow White who’s famous last words were “Mirror, Mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all” now she had a serious bitchin’ addiction.

Hope you can take this refreshing idea into your relationships and watch them bloom into something far greater than girly catch ups.
